Fendi handbag repair, clean and restoration

After a lot of wear, this Fendi bag had lost colour on the edges. It had also lost most of the edge-paint as it had peeled off. For this Fendi handbag repair, we decided to clean and restore and recolour the leather. Most importantly, remove all of the old edge paint and reapplying new paint.

Our Process

  1. After the initial consultation with our client, our major takeaway was that this bag was a workhorse. Hence all of our choices in regards to handbag accessories had to be able to withstand quite a beating on a daily basis. On this basis, we chose to use self-threading two-sided eyelets.  They were able to fill the larger hole made in the central bag divider by the original eyelet falling out. We then chose stainless steel shackles that had flush Allen key pins.
  2. The central handle was taken off the bag and both edges of the rubberised edge paint that had delaminated were taken off. An initial layer of a neutral base coat was used and then numerous successive layers were hand-applied, sanded, and then reapplied (till a plump edge was attained). All external edges were sealed, as needed in the same way.
  3. The inner lining was vacuumed and washed. As a final Au Revoir, the outer of the bag was cleaned by with leather lotion then a heavily pigmented sealing layer of black was applied to the big to revitalize its black gloss. All hardware was given a final polish.
