Chanel handbag recolour and restoration
A client brought in a Chanel bag that was very worse for wear and needed a Chanel handbag restoration. The bag had previously been coated with a coloured resin that was breaking down and discolouring the bag. Moreover, we were looking to replace the gold chain as the leather had worn.
Our Process
- We made an exhaustive effort to clean all the surfaces of the leather and remove the resin. The cleaning included the inside and out, the gold chain, leather inside the chain, zip, and Chanel logo.
- Next, with a bit of testing, we were able to match the original colour of the bag perfectly. Because we use premium grade pigment dyes and sealers, we were are able to ensure our refinishing jobs are lightfast and permanent. This means that UV light doesn’t break down the colour. There is no risk of colours bleeding or fading. Baxter & Black are one of the few bag repairers that use an airbrush, which means the colour is perfectly even.
- We cleaned the gold chain and entwined leather separately. In addition to this, we remade the leather hand-piece. We added some hand-stitched finishes with French waxed linen thread.
- To finish off, we nourished and protected the bag with Saphir Crème 1925 Shoe Polish.
