Baxter & Black is looking for a dynamic Retail Assistant to elevate our customer experience and lead our store with style and purpose. This role is perfect for someone who loves people and fashion, thrives in a well-paced retail environment and enjoys leading by example.

As the Cobbler Concierge, you’ll be overseeing day-to-day store operations, support the team or artisans, and ensure every customer feels welcomed and valued. You’ll bring strong organisation, initiative and reliability to the role, along with experience using social media and email to support promotions and customer engagement.

Duties (training provided)

  • Opening and closing the store
  • Ensuring the store is clean and stocked
  • Overseeing the cleanliness of the workshop
  • Greeting customers and taking orders
  • Coming up with repair solutions for bags and shoes
  • Small on-the-spot jobs such as key-cutting and heel tips
  • Overseeing the workflow to ensure the deadlines you have set are met
  • Organising postage for online sales

Experienced Shoe Repairer / Shoe Maker

Inside, you’ll find an old-worlde space filled with the scent of leather, the hum of tools, and the quiet focus of skilled hands at work.

We specialise in premium shoe and bag repair, restoration and bespoke leather care, bringing time-honoured techniques into a modern setting.

We’re searching for a curious, detail-driven artisan to join our small but growing team. You must already have experience in cobbling and/or leatherwork. What matters most is a love of quality and a respect for materials. At Baxter & Black, we don’t just fix, we experiment. From restoring vintage pieces to testing new leathers, polishes and finishes, we’re constantly exploring what’s possible.

We have a team of specialists in place but are looking for an all-rounder who is willing to adjust techniques to our traditional methods.

  • Assist customers with product advice and care tips
  • Maintain workshop tools and uphold our atmosphere of calm precision
  • Customer service when our Cobbler Concierge is not on front counter.
